  • Sometimes I forget

This is a knitting blog....  I am lucky enough to be able to knit (almost) all I would like to, and I really ought to post some pictures.  The problem, if it can be said to be such, of knitting for friends is that, every once in a while, one wants to keep the pictures a bit secret while the work is in progress.  This certainly goes for all the pictures of Christmas presents.

I share, therefore, the wolly jumper and sock-in-progress:

This is the version that didn't involve a camera flash.  It is a little dark in London at the moment.  The wolly jumper is here; the sock is from Sensational Knitted Socks, and I've just turned the heel.  It is a little busy for my tastes, but I'm sure the recipient will like it.

Oct 2006 006Then there's one picture of the SSJP.

This is the border: I did take a picture of the blocking process, but, to be honest, a couple of hundred pins and a white shawl and a white set of sheets did not make for the most scintillating of pictures.  White on navy, however, is a little easier on the eye.

I have it on good authority that the recipient adores it.

Oct 2006 064And here, my plane knitting, under my passport.

Not the best picture, and it doesn't do justice to the colour at all.  It's going to turn into Elfine socks for a dear friend.

Unless there is some dire accident with gague, in which case, it may turn into something slightly different but still lovely.  There's a limit to the number of bamboo dpns I'm willing to buy.  I know there'll be a nasty accident with one snapping, plus I don't like knitting on dpns.  The planes, however, seem a bit happier about letting one on with them.   Important when one is crossing the Atlantic this evening, and also, hopefully, maybe, going to Poland on Wednesday.

Yes, Poland.  On Wednesday.  For the day (now I've written that, it's bound to jinx).

I have to go and pack for Connecticut now.  The good news?  My big woolly stolen-from-the-ex jumper is dry again (my Mother will be flipping out that I'm taking it with me...).   It's the Fall.  I expect to be chilly.  I'm updating photos on the iPod, so I have all my pictures, including my parents, on there.  I shall be buying a US adapter and some new headphones at the airport.  And the latest Jilly Cooper.

And I'll be back, properly, on Sunday.  With, hopefully, some updates between times while I'm at Jennifer's.  And definitely some yarn (it's OK.  Some of the stash is travelling with me for her latest project).

    Packing.

    Must pack.

    p.s. mending not done.

  • No change...

The world continues to spin just a tad faster than I would like it to, so I cast on for this.  I'm using the nice red Cascade 220 which I originally bought for the Perfect Sweater.  Got gauge using the needles stated in the pattern, rather than the needles stated on the ball band (go figure), and happily did about three, maybe four rows of rib before bedtime.

You see, the thing is, I Need a wolly jumper so much that I am unable to pause long enough to type two 'o's in the middle of wooly.  Or two 'l's either, it would seem.  Autumn has suddenly appeared, and it's nippy (I wore socks to bed last night, which made getting up terribly difficult.  It is much easier to sleep when one's toes are warm and toasty and wrapped up in Lorna's Laces).

The last few months have been terrifically busy.  I could do with a proper holiday.  One which doesn't involve masses of running about like a confused loon, stewarding festival tents, being ill, or spending several hours a day programming websites.

Oh well.  In three weeks time, I'm going to Connecticut.  Three weeks.  Must find out what the weather will do!  This is phenomenally exciting.  Must check visa requirements...
