  • Ten things I love that start with the letter 'H'

    1. Home - I love being at home, escaping from the outside world.  This is important for an introvert.
    2. Howard's End - it has Samuel West in it, and this makes it a wonderful film.  When I first watched it, the tv would only play in black and white (a setting had been knocked out of whack).  To see it in colour, well.  It was fabulous.
    3. Heather - a dear, dear friend, and, helpfully, one whose name begins with H.  I also adore the rest of my friends, but I am constrained by this letter of the alphabet, otherwise I'd list the wHole darn lot of you!
    4. Hot Chocolate - with cream, the way they used to sell it in Liberty's.  My favourite waiter would always put a heap of extra cream on mine.  It was lush.  Sadly, the Rowanettes no longer meet in Liberty's but at iKnit London (the couches are better, but no hot chocolate anymore), and I no longer have this weekly treat.  It's just not the same at Starbucks, either.
    5. Hugs.  How could I not love hugs?
    6. Harry Potter Finger Puppets (see previous entry).  Incidentally, the green thing is an octopus and the yellow blob is Sponge Bob Square Pants.  And yes.  There is a naked Dumbledore.
    7. The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  In all formats.  I'm listening to the LP, which is different again from the radio show, and the tv show, and the film, and the book.  I wonder why no-one turned it into a cartoon.
    8. Captain Jack Harkness.  The more I watch Torchwood, the more I like him.  Actually, I think this is my way of trying to sneak in Torchwood and Dr WHo.  Captain Jack, however, is my favourite.
    9. Hot water bottles - for when it's cold, and I'm cold, or when I'm achey, or when I have cramps.  I do so much like to be warm.
    10. Hand knitted socks.  Making them, wearing them, giving them, receiving them.  I think that they are wonderful.

    And now, a list.

    • Ironing
    • Buy more OJ (we have got through a litre and a half since last night)
    • Take empty cartons to be recycled
    • Practise not freaking out when baby cousin returns with her tattoo.  Practise saying "oooh, that looks great!"  Practise saying "Did you faint?  Did it hurt?  Is it true that you're full of endorphins after getting a tattoo?"
    • Consider laundering sheets (I think, perhaps, tomorrow will be a better day, because I will feel less ill)  it's pouring with rain.  That was a bad decision on my part.  Can't hang them up upside now.  Hmmm.  Leaving this another half hour.
    • Buy more vapouriser refils, as it was miserable waking up this morning without the benefit of eucalyptus oil scenting the room.
    • Put stuff back in the shed
    • Sort out tickets for exciting concert
    • Sort out expenses form  need to print receipt for bags, otherwise done.
    • Put laundry away  this always takes aaaaages.
    • Finish one super secret project, to be blocked when the spare bed is no longer occupied  must "just" sew it.  I failed to follow the sewing instructions blindly enough, with the result that I have to re-do some.  Sigh.  But, the spare bed is no longer occuplied.....
    • Email new tenant
    • Dry hair
    • Be well enough to Prom on Sunday  I am just about well enough.  But I'll get there late and hang up in the Gallery, as the queue will, I think, be more sheltered.  It's really, really wet today.
    • Rip CDs to iTunes

  • Peaky

    Aug 2008 024

According to my colleagues, I look peaky today: I certainly don't feel as though I'm firing on all cylinders.

I may go home again.  After the meeting.  But, despite wanting to nap on the bus on the way in, I MADE IT TO WORK!!!

I went home early (at about 3pm), meandered via the Sorting Office, collected an exciting PARCEL, and located a lost Brownie Flag while I was at it.  There's a church just over the road from the Sorting Office, and it apparently used to host 1st Camden Brownies.  Rather exciting, really.  However, Jennifer knows how to spoil a girl.  She was lovely, forwarding a rather nifty polymer sheep (for a birthday present) to me, and these (photography skillz non-existant today).  The blob on the chocolate is a little polymer sheep which is not the birthday present.

I have also uploaded photos. See, my  baby cousin and her boyfriend, the entire cast of Harry Potter in finger puppets, other examples of Childrens' crafts at Towersey folk festival, a ridiculous machine, Fiona looking shy and retiring, and Stonehenge.  In no particular order.

  • Socks and Sweet Peas

    Aug 2008 010

Red is terribly hard to photograph

    Aug 2008 009

But you can see the variations in the colour just a little

     Aug 2008 008

The sun went in at the crucial point: but I think Eff'll like 'em

Coral toes are quite good too.

  • Saturday List

I'm listening to Nikki play an oboe study (she's comparing instruments) and wondering just where I put my flute music.  I rather fancy something from 63 Easy Melodic Studies for the Flute, but I have no idea where I put it.  Not where I thought it was, that's for sure. There's a definite difference between the two instruments, I can hear that quite quite clearly....but I'm not going to influence anyone here.  Just don't click on the comments until you've made your minds, 'kay?  Kirsty, this is deffo one for you, you've a much better ear than I.

    • laundry Entirely underwhelmed by explosion of tissue in washing machine, I now must venture downstairs to rescue the cycling glove that slipped from my nervless grasp while I was shaking soggy tissue confetti onto the streets of Camden....
    • passport photo & application
    • finger puppets
    • hair appointment(s)  Have managed to book self and Em for 11th Oct, and have potential cancellation for Baby Cousin on 30th August.  Sigh.  One should have a hairdresser in London, really.  Not Norwich.
    • Work
    • Visit parents
    • Remember to bring home sock pattern from work. Ooops.
    • Burn CD that was promised months ago (now have functional CD burner, it helps).
    • Knitting photos.
    • Pot up coriander
    • Take cartons to recycling.

OK.  Onwards.  These dratted puppets will not make themselves.  I had a beautiful idea about how to make a turtle, and I want to make him!  And I have to be at work in, what, 5 and a half hours.

  • May we just pause to freak out?

Approximately 30 seconds after I delete Mr Still Attached's phone number from my phone, he texts for the first time in over a month...

What with that, and the fact that one of my colleagues has narrowly missed out on having his head ripped off because he is on holiday (he disabled something VITAL), and that one of my systems apparently went to sleep for no particular reason at approximately 3.30am, I am not having a good day.

This, kiddywinks, is the sort of chaos that results from not eating breakfast (I have an imploding cold.  I am not hungry.  I have more-or-less ceased to whinge over my sinuses, but I think that is simply because I've taken the correct medication).  Let that be a lesson to you all.

Oh yes.  Blue hair or pink hair?
