  • OneHotProcessorUpdate #2

The hospital wants to make sure that she's OK with walking and whatnot, so it'll be another couple of days before they let her out: but they've removed lots of tubes today, and done some PT and OT, and she's knackered, so should sleep well.

She's also well supplied with knitting.

She's doing fine... we've spent most of the morning IMing (allowing for jetlag, lack of sleep, meds, interrupting nurses etc).  There's a nice set of staples holding her back together and her internal plumbing is functioning way way better now, so she should be out tomorrow with a home nurse to help keep body and soul together, and various sisters and family popping over.  She's looking forward to the knitting time and playing with Leonardo cat.

Alas, the hospital blocks Xanga!  But comment on her entry anyhow, and she'll get them.  Also email, message and I'll pass things on if you've not got her email and want to be super sure she gets them.

  • Christmas Mystery

If you could tell me for whom the following were bought (or, alternatively, if you want them yourselves), I'd be grateful

    • Two copies of Elizabeth Wurzel's "The Bitch Rules"
    • One copy of "P'tit Ours Blanc", ready-wrapped (?) which has to be destined for someone who speaks French, but, otherwise, I'm totally confused (and, because the Fiasco doesn't speak French, and his wife is Czech, I can't give it to their son.  I have another book for him, and one similar for Sam's daughter, which makes life easier).
    • One Nakiska in pale blue
    • One Kipling "The Day's Work" (actually, I think this was originally destined for the Anthropologist, but since he failed to send me a card last year, he won't be receiving it), with pages cut.
    • One 'piece of eight' reproduction coin
    • One copy "How to pee standing up"

I am seriously confused.  I shall be applying post-it notes to any presents bought during the year 2009, so that when I hit Christmas 2009, I shall know who is supposed to get what.  In theory, at any rate.  Or I should stop trying to match presents to people at random.

I am also intending to break with about 15 years of tradition, and my Godfather & his wife, and my brevet Aunt & Uncle will not be getting calendars.

I am also not buying any more wrapping paper since I have just found several sheets bought in the Paperchase sale circa 2004.  I may need to make some gift tags, as I don't have enough left over from the Brownies making them in 2006.

  • In which I love the Welshman

    • because he drove me and my clobber to the Guides sleepover.
    • because he then located erasers, chocolate, a heater and got some spare keys (for my flat) cut, all from his own pocket (to be reimbursed)
    • because he went back to my flat to collect things I'd forgotten (the laminator, for starters)
    • because he collected all my clobber, (and some extra clobber of the bedding sort that another Guider had collected from my flat between times), and took it all back to my flat, and actually carried all of it upstairs for me without help
    • because he then drove me home from his Advent Carol service (he's in the choir at St Luke's), which is all the way across London and takes rather longer by car than by tube (I did it in about half an hour by tube), because he thought it would be nicer for me than struggling with the tube when knackered.
    • because he let me attach myself like a limpet on Saturday morning when I needed a hug.
    • because he was unphased by Guides asking him "Are you Jane's husband?"

    Aren't friends wonderful?!
