  • Um. Yeah.

First the depressing bit.  WriteJayWrite’s daughter Emmy has died – there’s a lovely picture on her Mom’s site (CarrieG), and that’s all I know.  She was only twelve.  So.  Not.  Fair.  Also not fair is that they took Dad’s prostate out and didn’t get all the cancer, it’s in the lymph node as well.  They are going to throw hormones at it.  On the plus side, the catheter is out, and he is now doing his pelvic floor exercises properly (he didn’t do them wtih the catheter in, which was rather a mistake, I gather.  You have been warned). This all rather unravelled me on Tuesday night, and I really did not achieve terribly much other than texting the Dishy Barrister about website updates and my disinclination to do them.  Like the Brownies Accounts, they are not done.  Alas, unlike the Brownies Accounts, I could not lock them in the cupboard in order to escape from them.

Brownies were lovely: Ciorstadh’s friend Rowena came along to join us, and we whizzed her round the Brownie Ring in her wheelchair.  We did chromatography with them, and they were entirely engrossed with finding out what colours come out of felt tip pens: how black turns lots of different colours including pink and blue and yellow, and sludgy green has turquoise in it, it’s just very well hidden.  Skittles were less effective at producing lots of different colours, alas.  The Guides did dreamcatchers – apparently there are Brownies who deal with dreamcatchers with a bit of help, the Guides didn’t quite manage it.  I thought it was grand fun, though, and shall be making one of my own at some point.  I had a run in with the Guide who had prank called me, and I’m annoyed that she gets under my skin so badly.  A very small minority repeatedly locked themselves in the loo, en masse, and have been threatened by not having their frienship party (yes, I am a meanie).  The rest of them were brilliant, and stuck at the dream catchers, and really tried instead of being trying.

I also had a lovely, glorious, wonderful birthday party last night.  No photos, but civilised conversation and champagne (the Dishy Barrister is wonderful like that, he contributed champagne) and new books (everyone else is wonderful like that) and THIRTY Cadbury’s Creme Eggs (The Welshman is quite bonkersly wonderful like that).  I must write my thank you letters, along with all the other things I need to do on Saturday.

    • Thank you letters  Perhaps not…
    • Pack  Pretty much: just need to get creme eggs for Sara.  Because she’s not getting that which the Welshman bought me.  I have so much yarn for her, I’m going to have lots of space for souvenir yarn
    • Finish Hanami  Have ten rows left.
    • Do not forget currency (I somehow have $40, which is rather exciting) or passport.  Both packed.
    • Book taxi to airport
    • Get money for taxi and for the cleaner next week
    • Tidy the sitting room, put up curtains
    • Drop Tawny Owl’s birthday present off with her  Or just put it in the mail
    • Check batteries situation  Batteries need to charge, as do phones and everything else.
    • Charge batteries  Everything else is charged.
    • Work out what the holiday knitting should be  OK, I have Sam’s socks, I have a copy of Travelling Socks, I have some lovely pink sock yarn, and the Jaywalkers I started on the last trip to finish, and some Regia for the plane once I’m done with my Jaywalkers.
    • Collect business cards from work, as I stupidly left them there.
    • Resign self to getting up at 5am to get taxi at 6am for airport arrival at 7am, as plane is 9am and I can’t cut it any finer.
    • Inform card company of my trip.

I feel tired.  I tried to cheer a friend up on my way to Brownies, and I don’t think I actually succeeded.  I think I just made it worse.  Sigh.

And this is why I became a DBA…

  • :) Can’t wait for you to come.

  • Have a wonderful time sweetie. I hope you have lots of fun.

PS if you mean me you were trying to cheer up you didn’t make it worse I was just so tired -  had zero perspective. Worked out I had had aprox 15 hours sleep in the preceeding 96 which is just not enough. So I went to bed and slept. As always things look better when not shattered.

  • I’m sorry that they didn’t get all of your dad’s cancer. I know the hormone treatments were extremely effective for my FIL.

    have a great trip!

  • Happy birthday. I love the cartoon.
