Brrrr
I may, just, may, put my bedroom's heating on tonight. I am perfectly cosy (five blankets, hot water bottle, flannel pjs and a woollen scarf), but getting up is Not Fun At All. I could sleep and sleep and sleep at the moment. My bed is snuggly warm. The rest of the room, rather less so.
I have Intentions about documenting knitting progress at the weekend. Watch this fall to naught, as I really really want to go on a good long stompy cold walk as well.

I had the same experience this morning in my bed. BRRRRRR (with a Jersey accent)
I third that bed experience. Snooze was hit a number times this morning to delay the arising from bed.
Strangely enough, the long stompy cold walk sounds just as good too.
ohh my room is totally the same!!! bed is sooo warm, but you know the air outside of the cocoon of warmth is awful cold! I hate winter.
We have the heat on because our poor dog is like our own little temperature gauge (when she's in a ball she's cold, when she's on her side it's just right) and since she's 12...it's the least we can do! I have discovered the joy of a down feather bed topper - WOW! Now that will really make you not want to get out of bed! It'll also cut down on the 5 layers of blankets you currently need to keep warm....
Sleeping in a cold room is fine, if you have enough blankets or comforters to keep you warm.
But you'll never be able to pry me out of a nice warm bed to get up into a cold room.
I like comforters better than blankets for a cold room. They are much lighter and cuddly for the amount of warmth they provide than blankets are.
@mswhitney, @lostarts - Oh, but, you see, I like my blankets. Very muchly. I kinda like the weight, too - it feels substantial and like a hug! I'm also not sure what a comforter is - and, either way, I cannot function with a duvet. I wriggle quite a bit, and tend to end up throwing the duvet on the floor in the process, and getting cold. When I stayed in Cambridge, I had a single bed, a duvet, and a cold behind at random intervals as the duvet made a bid for freedom and headed to the floor. ~x~

Oh no...what I am talking about goes on the mattress underneath the sheet and mattress pad... no duvet necessary....
@mswhitney - Oh, a mattress topper! I keep thinking about one of those... They are terribly luxurious. ~x~
Ah, a good long stompy cold walk sounds absolutely wonderful ...

I suspect that a comforter and a duvet are similar, but not the same.
My comforters are like a really thick quilt. The filling puffs up to at least an inch thick, and the outside is usually cotton, although I suspect that some have some polyester in them. The filling in mine is polyester. I am allergic to so many things that I don't want to find out the hard way that I'm also allergic to down.
A duvet seems to be similar, but usually has a cover, and I think that's the problem for you. I went to Stitches East in Baltimore in November, and the hotel I stayed in had what I think was a duvet, complete with cover. The cover was a slippery material that made me wake up and drag it back onto the bed several times overnight.
My comforters never slide off the bed any more than the blankets do.
Here's a URL for a comforter: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Floral-Comforter-Twin/dp/B0013TQWCW/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1231605133&sr=1-9

Wikipedia says that duvets are used as the entire bedding package, but comforters are used in place of blankets. I use a sheet with mine, and sometimes a blanket between the sheet and the comforter.
I was sick for a while and when I was in the hospital they used only heavy cotton blankets. I had the choice of keeping warmer (they wouldn't give me enough to actually keep warm) and having the weight of the blankets hurt joints that were already in pain, or using fewer blankets and freezing to death. It wasn't a good choice either way. It was nice when I went home and could use the comforter that kept me warm and didn't hurt my joints with the weight of blankets.
